At NOUN, students have the freedom to study when and where it suits them. With both online and off-campus courses, they can complete their courses in their own time and on their own terms. This means that even if you have a full-time job, or other commitments, you can still find the time to study at your own pace.
The hard truth is that to earn a degree in NOUN, you must be prepared to work twice as hard, because there are no lecturers to influence the scores and results of students as assignments and examinations are computer marked.
Every course in NOUN has its material in both print and electronic copies for students to have easy access wherever they are.
Open universities employ qualified teachers who will help you through the course material.
Unlike traditional universities that have a set duration to finish a degree (generally 4 years in Canada or the United States), an open university degree can be completed in as little as 3 years or upwards of 10 years.
Student Union doest exist, yes, but there are associations that represent the interest of each department. Attending lectures is your choice. There are tutorial centers across and the school recently made a law that for you to lecture at the tutorial center, you must have a minimum of Masters so tell me, who are they lecturing
The National Open University of Nigeria is a federal open and distance learning (ODL) institution, the first of its kind in the West African sub-region. It is Nigeria’s largest tertiary institution in terms of student number and is popularly referred to as NOUN.
The university was initially established on 22 July 1983 as springboard for open and distance learning in Nigeria. It was suspended by the government on 25 April 1984. However, its resuscitation was begun on 12 April 2001 by the former President of Nigeria, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo. At take off of the university, pioneer student enrollment stood at 32,400.
It has over 75 study centres throughout the country. It offers over 50 programmes and 750 courses.
